Poor posture can cause overuse in muscle which may lead to aches and pain. Overtime, the stress due to poor posture results in muscle imbalance and joint wear. It may start with low level of pain, if untreated leads to more severe pain. Patient may develop trigger points in neck upper back area that are localized painful area feels like a knot.
Most common postural dysfunction and overuse related injuries are:
- Neck and upper back pain
- Shoulder tendonitis
- Lower Back pain
- Planter fasciitis
- Patello-femoral pain (runner’s knee)
- Patellar tendonitis (jumper’s knee)
- Ilio-Tibial Band (ITB) syndrome
- Shin Splints
- Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
Our physical therapist will properly assess muscle imbalances, overuse injuries, postural dysfunction, and will come up with specific exercise program and patient education along with skilled therapy.
Physical therapy may include modalities like hot packs, cold packs, ultrasound, and tens.
Manual therapy is extremely beneficial with postural dysfunction and overuse injuries. Our therapist may perform joint mobilization, strengthening, stretching, soft tissue mobilization, massage, trigger point release, muscle energy technique.
